This program makes it possible for young people to begin professional training towards becoming a circus artist while continuing their secondary studies at the National Circus School. It also leads to a high school diploma (Diplôme d'études secondaires, or DES), accredited by the Quebec Ministry of Education, Leisure and Sport. The program is designed to enable students to prepare for advanced training and a college education (see DEC Program Objectives). Students may be admitted to the program at the beginning or during their secondary studies. A secondary 5 or Grade 11 student may also use this final high school year to prepare for entrance to the college-level (DEC) program.

The program emphasizes students' overall development. It comprises general education including all subjects required by the Quebec Ministry of Education's secondary teaching syllabus, solid physical preparation, technical and artistic training in basic circus art disciplines as well as in the performing arts (dance and acting).
All courses, theoretical and practical, are held on School premises in facilities designed to suit each specific purpose.
The student-to-teacher ratio for academic subjects does not exceed 15 pupils per teacher.
Teaching modules are employed for certain subjects, while a combination of one-to-one and group projects, workshops or laboratories, is the preferred method for other subjects.
The program includes numerous occasions for students to apply their training through performances before an audience, culminating in the annual show in which students participate in all areas of production.
A normal week's schedule comprises a minimum of 42 hours of attendance at the School, including 22 hours in the classroom (academic subjects), and 20 hours of training (physical preparation, circus arts and theatre). Academic subjects and the other disciplines are taught alternately in half-day blocks between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Special events, like the Annual Show, may require student presence on weekends.
The program begins with a mandatory two-week session during the month of August. The school calendar spans a period of 10 months.

The ideal candidate wishes to forge a career as a circus artist and, towards that end, is fully prepared to pursue artistic and technical training for a period of 4 to 8 years.
The candidate:
- has completed primary school and may have already begun secondary studies
- is in good academic standing
- has developed physical and psychomotor skills such as coordination, spatial orientation, flexibility and body awareness
- is in excellent health
- demonstrates proficiency in the circus arts, dance, a martial art or an acrobatic sport with artistic character, such as artistic or rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, diving, figure skating, etc.
- exhibits autonomy, determination, discipline and creativity.
French is the language of instruction for both academic subjects and circus art training. However, the School's French immersion program favours Canadian students who have not previously attended a French-language School. In order to facilitate academic progress, the school may accept a candidate who has a minimal knowledge of French prior to enrolment.
